Online computer gaming no longer a boys club

The online gaming world often thought to be filled with nerdy teenage boys and men that still think they are. But, in fact, millions of women go online regularly to play a variety of genres of computer games. Now women of all ages have a new online gaming community of their own launched by Verizon for its FiOS Internet and High Speed Internet subscribers – “She’s Got Verizon Games.” “Research shows that today there are nearly as many female gamers as there are male gamers,” said Susan Retta, vice president of consumer products and services at Verizon. “Our new casual gaming portal gives women and girls a new place online to enjoy games, interact with other players, win prizes, identify themselves by games they love to play, challenge and stretch their minds, and just have a lot of fun.” With a $14.99 monthly subscription women will have unlimited access to more than 1,500 online games, a “mini me” avatar, virtual marketplace, virtual 3D game lounge and more. According to a recent survey, 80 percent of U.S. females and 87 percent of U.S. males admitting to playing games be it on computers or through videogame consoles.
